Valley Park heads to title game on walk-off single

Valley Park got a bases loaded single from Dalton Roskoswke in the 7th inning, it scored the winning run and put the Hawks in the state title game on Thursday.

It will go down as the most memorable single in Dalton Roskowske's career.

The grounder back up the middle bounced off second base and into centerfield. On most nights, with the bases loaded, it would have scored two runs. On Wednesday, it only scored one run, the winning run. Braden Spawr, who double to start the inning, scored and Valley Park defeated West County 5-4 and now will play South Callaway for the state championship.

Freshman Ethan Schmitt got the start for the Hawks, and he found himself in numerous jams. Schmitt, however, was magnificent in getting out of the jams and surrendered only three runs in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Schmitt was also a standout at the plate. He had three hits, including a first inning triple that scored the Hawks' first two runs.
