Ameren Illinois donates $50K to tornado relief

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) – Ameren Illinois has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross to help with Illinois tornado relief efforts.

Richard J. Mark, CEO and president of Ameren Illinois, pledged the money Wednesday to the Illinois Tornado Relief Fund established by the Red Cross.

"As we wrap up our power restoration efforts, it is important to remember that the road to recovery is a long one for many of the families impacted by this tragedy," said Mark. "We hope this donation will in some way help our friends, neighbors and colleagues to resume their normal lives as quickly and safely as possible."

At least 15 tornadoes hit the state of Illinois Sunday, and Gov. Pat Quinn declared 13 counties disaster areas. Three people died in Massac County, two died in New Minden, and one died in Washington.

Nearly 150,000 Illinois residents lost power Sunday during the storms, which moved across the state during the early afternoon hours.
