Possibility of severe weather for Monday

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - We got a bit steamy Sunday, but the long Fourth of July weekend will be remembered for the great weather. Guess what's about to change, though?

It'll be quiet Sunday night for most of us, with just a slight chance for storms north of Interstate 70 after midnight.

Monday it will be even warmer with highs in the mid-90s and the heat index near 100 degrees. There is only a slight chance we could see an afternoon storm but if any do develop they're likely to be strong and possibly even severe.

Monday night is the biggest concern. A complex of storms should roll across the region from the west. There is a chance some could be severe with the biggest threat being heavy rain and damaging winds.

The best chance for severe weather for most of us is late Monday evening through sunrise Tuesday.

Tuesday afternoon, a cool front responsible for all the storms is south of the metro area but in the afternoon, along and south of the front, strong to severe storms are again a possibility.

Most of the region is likely to see an inch or more of rain between late Monday and late Tuesday.
