Avoid the outdoors if possible. The elderly and young children should stay indoors in air conditioning. Never leave a person or a pet inside a vehicle, not even for a minute. Air inside can reach lethal temperatures within minutes.

Anyone working or spending time outside should drink plenty of water, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
