Storms knock out power to 50,000 in our region

More storms are expected overnight Friday.

Severe thunderstorms are possible again this afternoon and evening after storms rocked the St. Louis region early this morning. The weather is mostly quiet for the rest of the morning and early this afternoon. Later in the day, expect more storms to develop in Missouri, sliding into the St. Louis area by this evening. There is a threat for more damaging wind, large hail, and dangerous lightning.

Storms that blew across our region over night have knocked out power to thousands. Ameren is reporting there are currently 50,000 without power in the their service territory.

The outages have canceled classes at:

  • Hazelwood West Middle School
  • Hazelwood West Early Childhood
  • Garrett Elementary School
  • and Jury Elementary School

Other schools are instead choosing to closing early. A press release from the Parkway School District said Parkway West High School, Green Trails Elementary, Henry Elementary and McKelvey Elementary will close at 10 a.m. Bellerive Elementary will close at 1 p.m.

Strong storms blew over a semi truck on I-70 overnight. Eastbound I-70 is still closed at mile marker 177 in Montgomery County.

More:

Police in Ladue report that Warson Road is closed in both directions at Conway Road due to downed trees and power lines.  Dielman Road, just north of Ladue Road is closed for the same reasons.

In nearby Olivette, our meteorologist Jessica Quick woke up to downed trees on top of her car.
