Ryan Dean came to 5 On Your Side in April 2008 and reported weekday mornings on Today in St. Louis for a decade before moving to the storytelling team in 2018. In 2019, he was promoted to news content director. In 2020, Ryan decided he wanted to get back to his roots as a reporter.

“To me, planning how we cover the news isn’t nearly as rewarding as it is covering the news,” said Dean. “I often tell people to know who they are. If I were to answer that question for myself, I love having my boots on the ground and being in the middle of the story. While the news content director role has been rewarding, I miss being on the front lines. I love storytelling, I love breaking news live shots and I love being in the community. The best day at the office for me is running to breaking news, finding the story, scooping the competition, doing multiple adrenaline-filled live shots and working the story to completion.”

Ryan currently reports for Today in St. Louis and co-anchors the 10 a.m. newscast alongside Savannah Louie. He started his new role in January 2021.

He grew up in upstate New York, studied communications at the University of Miami and worked in Syracuse, New York before moving to St. Louis.

Ryan is married to Dana Dean who hosts Show Me St. Louis. They have two sons, Jack and Deacon.
