A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline opens at the Playhouse at Westport Plaza

It's as close as you'll get to seeing the country music legend

The year was 1963 and things and were very different.

"On behalf of Bull of the Woods Chewing Tobacco," the radio DJ on stage says leaning into an old fashioned microphone.

But that's not what this story is about, this is the story of Patsy Cline. One of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

"She loved to perform in cowboy fringe that her mother made. This is an exact replica of one of Patsy's costumes," explains Julie Johnson, the woman who slips into the cowboy boots of the country music legend.

She's a woman who makes you feel like your actually seeing one of the Grand Ole Opry's biggest stars.

"Somebody last night from the audience said you know I guess I didn't realize that she wasn't an immediate hit cause she struggled for two or three years." Johnson points out.

It is a role she was made for and worked for.

"I've certainly done the research and listened for hours and hours and hours to Patsy Cline which is not work at all, that's the most pleasant job in the world."

A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline is a stroll along her journey to stardom.

"The story is based on actual events," Steve Barcus adds.

He helps to shine a light on those moments as a few different characters including Little Big Man.

"There was a radio DJ in Winchester Virginia who was doing a tribute to Patsy Cline on the on the day that her plane went down and had to read the news during his tribute."

It's a show that shouldn't be confused with 'Always Patsy Cline.'

"I've done both shows and I love both shows because they're totally different takes." Johnson says.

Always is through the eyes of Patsy's number one fan. This one, 'A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline' takes you through her career as Little Big Man spins her hit records as well as her lesser known songs...backed by a great live band.

"They're have been times where I've gone back and listened to some of the original patsy recordings and just sit and listen in awe of how closely she can replicate Patsy's voice," Barcus says.

So take a step back in time with the sweet sounds of Patsy Cline and discover a little more about one of the best female vocalist of all time.

"I always say there's only one Patsy Cline I only do my best to pay tribute."
