Dole Whip gives us one more reason to visit the St. Louis Zoo

People are going crazy over Dole Whip at the zoo so they added a second location.

St. Louis Zoo — You go to see the animals, right? But the added bonus of going to the zoo during the summer is getting to try these seasonal treats. People are going crazy over two in particular. The first is a smoothie served in a pineapple, and the second is Dole Whip.

TIKI FRUITI SMOOTHIE: First we're heading to the Tiki Fruiti stand for a pina colada or strawberry daiquirri served in a pineapple. You can get those drinks with or without rum. The Tiki Fruiti stand opened last summer near the carousel and proved to be so popular they built a second, larger stand outside of The North Entrance.

DOLE WHIP: Soft serve Dole Whip has been at the zoo for 5 years at the entrance of the River's Edge. The zoo just added a second Dole Whip location because of its popularity. You'll now find it at Ray's Bar and Grill, next to the stingrays. It was made popular at the Dole Plantation and many theme parks and stadiums. The soft serve frozen dessert has a huge fan following. There are four flavors to try. Pineapple, Raspberry, Pineapple Raspberry twist, Strawberry, and the new flavor this year is Lime. It not only tastes great but is just 90 calories, and the zoo is trying to keep up with demand.

"It's not ice cream, it's more light and refreshing. It doesn't make you feel so heavy after you eat it. It's something nice on a hot summer day," said Tim Huett, food service director.
