Salads 2 Your Door is making it easier than ever to eat healthy

For Chanala Rubenfeld, salads are like art.

ST. LOUIS — Salads 2 Your Door is a local subscription meal service making it easier than ever to eat healthy. It saves a lot of time, too, and it was started by someone who is always busy thanks to her six kids.

Health Coach Chanala Rubenfeld never set out to start a salad business.

"It was a complete accident," said Rubenfeld.

She kept hearing the same thing from her clients- they were too busy to eat healthy.  Chanala knows what it's like to be busy as a mom of six boys. So, she knew just the thing that could help.

"On a whim, I’m like: I have an idea. I’m going to give you five salads, so you have it for the entire week. you’ll keep it in your fridge, so you have no excuses. Grab and go. I gave it to two clients, not intending to start a business at all, and it just spread through word of mouth."

So, she started Salads 2 Your Door.

“You know every single Monday, those salads are going to show up on your door or office step. A salad is $12.50, five salads is $62.50 a week. So, delivery is free."

The salads change every week to keep things interesting. This week, she’s making a Southwestern Black Bean Salad with Chipotle Lime dressing.

“On top of the lettuce, we have quinoa, black beans, corn, red onion, tomato (sun-dried), and black bean chips and parsley.”

She’s also making a Falafel bowl with Green Tahini dressing.

“We have farro, black olives, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, and hummus here They’re customized to each person, so if you don’t like a certain food, that allows us to know to leave those ingredients off.”

The salads come sealed, so they can stay fresh and last all week. The dressing comes in pouches.

“It does look like baby food pouches. That was part of our trial and error. Initially, it came in containers, and when we sealed the salads, they would pop open.”

Now that she’s perfected her artisan salad delivery business, she hopes to take it national.

For Chanala, salads are like art.
