For the last four years, Save A Lot has hosted Bags for a Brighter Holiday. This is a donation drive where you could purchase a bag of groceries for just $5, and this bag would then be delivered to a local food pantry.
Courtney Budelman got the chance to help deliver some of those bags in Alton at the Crisis Food Center. This food center serves an average of 700 families a month. Crisis Food Center is set up like a grocery store to help people pick out what they really want. It takes about 50 pounds of food to feed an average family for one week.
With Bags for a Brighter Holiday, the goal is to have people not worry about choosing between buying food and paying for their heat this winter. This season they were able to help hundreds get the food they need!
