Save A Lot 'Bags for a Brighter Holiday' is back!

Find out how you can help this holiday season at Save A Lot.

Even though it might be too early to put up your decorations, one thing we can all agree on is it’s never to early to get in the holiday spirit! Show Me St. Louis and 5 On Your Side are proud to be the local media partner for a holiday program that is sure to make a difference for our community. The program is called Bags for a Brighter Holiday and this is an event Save A Lot puts on every year.

Courtney and Dana helped to get some bags ready for the program’s kick-off! They went to the Save A Lot on Jefferson, one of just 50 Save A Lots in the St. Louis area. Bags are put together with holiday meal essentials and when you check out at any local Save A Lot, you can purchase one for $4.99. These bags are then donated to local food charities.

Last year alone, customers donated thousands of meals in the St. Louis area! The goal this year is to get 50,000 bags donated across all the corporate Save A Lot stores. So, what happens after you’ve donated? The charity for the store on Jefferson is St. Vincent DePaul Church, and Father Ed joins Courtney to explain how donations help them.

For almost 40 years, St. Vincent DePaul Church has had a Christmas program. They live in an area with a lot of impoverished and low-income people, especially low-income seniors living on fixed incomes. So, Bags for a Brighter Future become part of their “grocery store.” The parish is set up like a grocery store, and families can come in and shop. For the senior citizens, groceries are delivered to them. This way, everyone gets food and gifts at the Christmas season. This church serves over 2,000 people within 6 days.

You can be a part of this holiday giving! Bags for a Brighter Holiday is happening now at Save A Lot stores across St. Louis through December 31. Find the closest location to you at savealot.com.
