Halloween safety tips from Schultz & Myers

Know what to look out for this Halloween with your kids trick-or-treating.

Year after year, Schultz & Myers gets calls about kids injured by vehicles on Halloween. Here to walk us through some advice every parent should know is Stephen Schultz.

Stephen starts by sharing that the last US Census data on how many trick-or-treaters we have in the US is from 2015 with 41 million kids. So, the risk of injury will increase with that volume of kids walking around. The most common thing to watch out for is getting hit by a vehicle. On Halloween, there are twice as many injuries involving kids as pedestrians than any other day in the year.

There are ways to control these risks, one main thing being to go out with your kids. Crossing the street is a main concern, so consider wearing a lanyard with a glow stick and put some reflective tape on the front and back of your costume. It is also recommended to just wear face paint instead of a mask so that your vision stays intact.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
