USAA travel tips this fall for military families

USAA Insurance has helpful information for military families on how to travel this fall.

Fall is a great time to travel or plan your holiday trip! Help is here with a timely new survey from USAA on the best, and most affordable, places to stay for military families.

Corrine Vela-Zapata, travel expert and Travel Director for USAA Insurance, says that it is important to get planning early so that you have no stress and you can make sure you are going somewhere fun. USAA.com has a lot of resources and discounts for their members to check out. Corrine says this is a great place to start figuring out what your next trip will be, what kind of discounts you can get, and how you can save appropriately for that trip.

To ensure that your trip is safe and fun, make sure you check your passport is current if you are traveling abroad along with your drivers license, and be sure to check the travel rules and regulations for TSA. It is also a good idea to put notifications on your credit and debit cards while you’re traveling, and you can keep track of that on USAA’s mobile app. This is a great way to monitor your expenditures.

Corrine mentions, too, that you should not post any pictures on social media until you return as you do not want people to know that you are not at your home.

USAA can help while planning your vacation if you visit USAA.com/vacations. The site has great travel opportunities related to cruises, resorts, and tours. It also has deals such as up to 25% off of rental cars and hotels.

Corrine also has some reminders about things that people often forget to do when they travel. Be sure to pack phone chargers, check with your phone provider to make sure you have service, double check your itinerary, and maybe even take a photo of your passport in case the physical document is lost. Especially for international travel, you may want to download some apps to help with money conversion and common phrases.

USAA travel insurance is highly recommended to travelers as well. Corrine explains that because you have made such a large investment on a travel plan, those are hard-earned dollars that you want to protect. So, if something happens and you have to cancel, or if you are on the trip and have a medical emergency, the insurance policy will help you be whole.
