ST. LOUIS — We're all about helping you grow your professional skills with our series, Career Central.

Would you like to learn how to get a new job faster?

There’s free help for anyone wanting to learn how to write a professional resume, improve their interviewing skills, become computer literate, or learn new ways to network.

SLATE Missouri Job Center offers no-cost, in-person and virtual professional workshops.

There are two sessions each day. Choose between the 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. session, or a second that runs from 11 a.m. to noon. They’re free, and you can sign up here.

SLATE also offers accommodations for those with limited English proficiency and those with visual or hearing impairment.

SLATE is also helping you register for professional training programs offered by Ranken Technical College and St. Louis Community College, from accounting and truck driving, to sign language and teaching.

The fall semester starts Aug. 23, 2021.

There's even help with tuition, books, and supplies through the Workplace Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA), subject to candidates meeting eligibility requirements for program participation.

2021 Youth Employment Program

There’s still time to apply for work experience in SLATE’s 2021 Youth Employment Program offered through WIOA.

The Youth program is for young adults ages 17 to 24, who are not enrolled at any school. Participants enjoy paid employment in clerical, assistant or aide roles with government agencies, libraries, community organizations, for-profits, nonprofits and more.

Fed-Ex filling 150 positions

FedEx Supply Chain is looking to add about 150 positions at its facility on Inner Park Drive in Edwardsville.  

It's looking for warehouse workers and forklift operators, specifically.

Hiring events are being held Tuesday, Aug. 17, and Wednesday, Aug. 18.

Those events are being held at the Holiday Inn and Suites, 1000 Plummer Drive in Edwardsville, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.

Face masks are required and are provided at the events.

Evening and night shifts are available, and these are full-time positions that come with benefits.

Eligible applicants need a high school diploma, or equivalent, and forklift operator experience is needed for those positions.

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles filling 100 open positions

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles is hosting a career fair Wednesday, Aug. 18.

It runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at One Ameristar Boulevard in St. Charles. The event will be held in the Landmark Atrium.

Dress professionally, as on-site interviews will be conducted throughout the day.

Multiple gaming and hospitality positions are available. There are 100 jobs available in all.

All hired candidates will be eligible for a $500 signing bonus after working at the property for 60 days. These jobs also give candidates the option of medical, dental and vision benefits, and holiday premium pay.
