1 dead, 4 hospitalized in Memorial Day weekend crash

No one was wearing their seatbelt, according to the crash report.

SALINE CO., Mo. – Police are investigating a crash that left one teen dead and four others hospitalized early Saturday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a possible vehicle defect caused the 2001 Kia to skid and travel off the right side of the roadway on Interstate 70 near mile marker 68.

The car overturned multiple times and four occupants were ejected. No one was wearing their seatbelt, according to the crash report.

The driver, Kristen Moore, 18, was transported to a hospital where she later died of her injuries.

Livia Halla, 17, Celia Arredondo Rodriguez, 17, Tobias Seek, 20, and Seth Steele, 19, all from Independence are at hospitals with serious injuries.
