'Being a husband and being a dad are two of my favorite things about being alive. I feel like I'm meant to raise a bunch of kids.' - Adam Wainwright ❤️

Caleb Adam Wainwright is about two months old now, but Adam and his family officially announced their adoption of him on Thursday.

We talked with Adam in the locker room before the Cardinals' Friday night game against the Reds.

"It basically comes down to years of thinking about it, feeling like that was something we were called to do and then finally having the right time and opportunity to make it happen," Wainwright said.

"His middle name is Adam," Wainwright said. " I wanted to give him my name. I wanted him to have his own identity, with Caleb, but I also know there's a little piece of me in his name, too."

The Wainwrights already have four daughters, so Caleb makes five kids for the family.

"He's a cool little dude, man. He has a really cool spirit about him and he just makes me happy like my other four girls did also," Wainwright said. "He's already an extension of our family and we're glad to have him a part of it."

"There's over 2 million kids out there right now that need parents. We have plenty of love to go around. We have the space. Who knows how long I'll play this game for, but I'm fixing to have most of my life with plenty of time to care for them, too," Wainwright said. "Being a husband and being a dad are two of my favorite things about being alive. I feel like I'm meant to raise a bunch of kids. I feel like the Lord has equipped me for that."

The Wainwright's hope their adoption story might encourage others to adopt as well.

"There's so many beautiful little children out there who need parents," Wainwright said.
