Attempted burglary leaves hole in Creve Coeur business

Kidder said he and his staff were stuck cleaning up a mess left behind after an attempted burglary overnight.

CREVE COEUR, Mo. – Jim Kidder is the General Manager for Creve Coeur Camera, he said Sunday was a busy day for the store. But, in addition to the normal work day, Kidder said he and his staff were stuck cleaning up a mess left behind after an attempted burglary overnight.

“We had somebody come in through the side of the building, broke through one of the windows that had drywall in front of it. Then they broke through the drywall,” Kidder said.

Once they were inside the building they broke through another wall that led to a classroom before making it to the merchandise. And, part of this attempted robbery was caught on video.

‘The person knew what they were doing this was not their first rodeo,” Kidder said.

Surveillance footage showed a person crawling on the floor scoping the area just before they started gathering cameras they tried to steal. However, an alarm was triggered and the person quickly stood up and ran out the store.

Kidder said the aftermath left a mess behind that will cost the company thousands of dollars to repair.

“We're going to do quite a bit more security to the outside of the building lighting on the outside of the building. We're going to make sure this doesn't happen again,” Kidder said.

He also said this isn’t the first time a burglary has happened at this location. This incident makes it the second burglary within the past few months.

Despite the fact the would-be thief tried hard to steal, no missing items from the store have been identified.
