ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A north county grandmother said she left her truck’s keys in the ignition to warm it up Wednesday morning.

She said that's when four teenagers stole her truck and crashed it into a tree. Joanne Robertson said she was heartbroken when she stood in her doorway Wednesday morning with her two grandkids.

She couldn't drive her grandkids to school or daycare. Robertson is raising her two young grandchildren and she didn’t know what to say to them in that moment.

Robertson's truck was in front of her house on Hamlet Court near Longridge Drive. She said police recovered her truck Wednesday afternoon after the four teenagers crashed it into a tree in Ferguson.

Robertson said the four teenagers were taken into custody. Her daughter said her truck is totaled and she can't afford to buy a new one. Family and friends describe Robertson as someone who brings joy to everybody.

They say she will take the shirt off her back to help someone with no questions asked. They say she didn’t deserve to have a truck stolen.

Robertson works as a housekeeper. She needs the truck to get to work and run errands for her grandchildren. A family friend hopes the teens who took a joyride in Robertson's truck realize how much trouble they've caused this hardworking woman and her grandchildren.

She said she also had about $200 in gift cards, a check book and toys for the kids’ Christmas gifts in the truck.
