Man accused of sexual assault in abandoned downtown building

Daniel Joseph Basurto was charged with two counts of sodomy and two counts of assault in connection with the alleged incident that happened over the weekend.

ST. LOUIS – A man is in custody and facing four charges after police said he sexually assaulted a woman and hit her friend in the head with a brick at an abandoned building in downtown St. Louis.

According to the charging documents, Basurto, 33, brought the victim to an abandoned building on the 750 block of South Second Street between 4:30 at 6:30 Saturday evening. She told police he choked and sexually assaulted her.

She said she then called her friend to help her. When her friend arrived, she saw Basurto outside the building. They got into a fight, and Basurto hit the friend in the head with a brick, cutting the man's forehead.

Basurto was charged with two counts of second-degree sodomy, one count of second-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault. His bond was set at $100,000.
