Suspect charged in fatal shooting in St. Louis' Lewis Place neighborhood

A man is in custody after police said he shot and killed a man who had been fighting with a woman

ST. LOUIS — A suspect has been charged after a man was shot and killed in the Lewis Place neighborhood early Sunday morning.

The victim has been identified as Winndell Howard, 38.

The suspect, Christopher Harmon, 30, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action.

The shooting happened at 2:17 a.m. in the 4700 block of McMillian Avenue, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said. 

Responding officers found the man dead with several gunshot wounds on a front porch. Harmon was still at the scene and was taken into custody without incident.

According to a preliminary investigation, Howard had gotten into an argument with a 28-year-old woman that turned physical. Harmon then shot Howard after a brief confrontation.

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The woman was not injured. Police recovered a gun at the scene.
