Police looking for man who allegedly tried to lure students with a puppy near school campus

According to police, a man approached the children somewhere off-campus in Herculaneum with the promise of a puppy while he sat inside of his car.

HERCULANEUM, Mo. — Police in Jefferson County are searching for a man who allegedly approached a group of students off-campus and tried to entice them with a puppy.

Thursday, the Herculaneum Police Department alerted the Dunklin R-5 School District Administration to a suspicious male after classes were out for the day. According to police, a man approached the children somewhere off-campus in Herculaneum with the promise of a puppy while he sat inside of his car.

The man, a 56-year-old who has blue eyes and gray hair and weighs approximately 215 pounds, was identified as an unregistered sex offender. Police are on the lookout for him in one of the three cars below:

  • Black Chevrolet Equinox, with unknown state plates UN3- C4X
  • Silver Chevrolet Impala
  • Red Ford F-150 with a checkered flag in the grill

The police department notified the school district that the incident was not seen on any of their campuses.

Anyone who has seen the man or has information on his whereabouts should call 911.
