CREVE COEUR, Mo. – A suspicious man who led Creve Coeur police through three neighborhoods early Wednesday morning was finally arrested and charged after a search that featured a drone and police dogs.
Police said Curtis J. Poynter, 37, was charged with first-degree burglary in connection with a Wednesday morning incident.
Police said it all started at around 2:45, when they received a report of a suspicious person pulling on car doors. About 10 minutes later, a home burglary alarm went off just a block away. Officers were already nearby and arrived in seconds to find the suspect had already gotten away.
A short time later, a man was seen looking through a storage bin about half-a-mile away but got away again, police said. Police towed a suspicious car and monitored the area throughout the morning when they got a call from a woman on Gaillard Drive who said a man was in her garage looking through her car.
The man ran into the woods when the woman saw her, but police were able to set up a search of the area.
With the help of St. Louis County, the St. Ann canine unit and their own drone, Creve Coeur police were able to arrest Poynter. The 37-year-old High Ridge resident is being held on $50,000 bond.
