Shots fired at police after Monday crash on I-44

ST. LOUIS — Three suspects were taken into custody and two others got away after police said they tried to leave the scene of a crash then fired a shot at officers trying to take them into custody Monday evening.

Police responded to the scene of a crash on Interstate 44 near Grand Monday at around 7:20. They saw a car trying to leave the scene and gave chase.

That car struck the median and five people jumped out. Police said one of the people fired a shot at officers but missed. Police detained the driver and two other passengers, but two people got away.

Police said a gun was found on the scene and no one was injured in the incident.

Police said the driver was arrested for traffic charges, but no other charges were announced.
