Teen shot by group of people after confrontation near Collinsville

The four suspects were described as wearing dark clothing who fled on foot after the shooting.

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. — A teenager was shot after a confrontation over the weekend in Collinsville, police said.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department, a 17-year-old man and his friend were crossing the street at the intersection of Art Street and Eva Street around 9 p.m. Sunday when they were confronted by a group of four people. The group allegedly exchanged words with the 17-year-old before "at least two" of the suspects fired at the victims.

The 17-year-old was shot "more than" three times and was transported to the hospital, a press release said. The friend of the shooting victim escaped uninjured. The 17-year-old is listed in critical condition.
