ST. LOUIS — A 17-year-old girl was dropped off at a hospital early Tuesday morning with a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said officers received a call for a shooting around 4:15 a.m. The shooting happened in the 200 block of John Avenue.

According to a preliminary investigation, she was riding in a car with four other people: three men, ages 18, 22 and 23, and another 17-year-old girl. They were driving down John Avenue when unknown occupants of a light-colored car started shooting into their car, striking the girl.

The girl was driven to the hospital by the 22-year-old man, where she was listed in critical condition. The man also suffered minor wounds from broken glass; he was treated and released.

No one else in the car was injured.

Two guns were found inside the victims' car. The investigation is ongoing.
