ST. PETERS, Mo. - Feeling helpless when it comes to protecting her daughter at school, Amy Doherty posted a video to social media showing the verbal attacks her daughter takes from other students.

"Nobody likes you. Why are you being so rude? It's because you're a b****," one teen is heard saying in the video.

The nearly 45-second video shows the girls hurling insults and profanities at her 15-year-old daughter.

"She's bullied like this all the time," Doherty said. "I am here today to make sure the girls are disciplined in the correct way."

Doherty says looking at the video makes her sick to her stomach.

Especially since bullying has taken a toll on her family once before, claiming the life of her partner's child.

"She was bullied at school, and bullied, and bullied. She took her life and we don't want to re-live this. The consequences are not steep enough.. this is serious," said Doherty.

Amy's daughter attends Fort Zumwalt East High school in St. Peters.

"It's a great school, and they are going to try to protect her, it's just their hands are tied."

Doherty spoke with school administrators Monday. They told her with nonviolent incidents like these the most they could do was suspend the student for several days.

Doherty says the punishment does nothing to ease her worries.

"My main thing is worse consequences. If these bullies know that they're gonna get, maybe it'll make them stop. They'll be thinking, 'I can't do this, I can't do this, because I'll be expelled'."

A spokesperson for the Fort Zumwalt School District district says they are aware of the situation and it has been addressed.

We asked about what kind of punishment the student would receive, but weren't given the specifics.
