'Mean Girls' the musical coming to Austin in August

Tickets go on sale this Friday.

AUSTIN, Texas — Get in loser, we're going to see "Mean Girls" the musical.

The Broadway hit is making its way to Austin this fall for the first time ever. The musical is based on the 2004 comedy about Cady Heron trying to fit in as a new student and climb her way to the top of the high school popularity pyramid as she makes new friends, and enemies, along the way.

Adante Carter plays heart throb Aaron Samuels in the musical. Carter grew up in South Dakota and went to school in Los Angeles for musical theater.

Authored by Tina Fey, who also wrote the book the movie is based on, attendees can rest assured the musical will be so fetch.

"It's super weird but exciting that this movie that I grew up watching, now I'm involved in the next incarnation of it. We worked with Tina Fey, who is the original writer of the movie, and she was in the movie as well. So having her in the room was a super surreal moment," said Carter.

"Mean Girls" will be in Austin for six days at the University of Texas at Austin Bass Concert Hall from Aug. 2 through Aug. 7. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 4, at 10 a.m. on the Broadway in Austin website.

"It's just so exciting because people are really looking forward to this iconic movie to turn into a musical. I watching the audience and listening to them hear the jokes and see all the changes that have been made. It's just really fun," said Carter.

"Mean Girls" is just one of several shows coming to Bass Concert Hall for the 2022-23 season. Other shows include "Chicago," Disney's "Aladdin" and "To Kill A Mockingbird.".
