'Get cleaned up, let's move forward' | St. Charles Co. residents ready to recover from flooding

But no matter what conditions they face, people who live in St. Charles are ready to get their lives back on track.

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — In St. Charles County, waters are rising by a foot, and then slated to go down again by next week.

But no matter what the current conditions are, locals are ready to get their lives back on track.

"Get back in here. Let's get cleaned up, let's move forward," Paula Worlitz said. That's the mindset for many residents affected by the flood. She's lived in her home near the Mississippi River since 1990.

Worlitz said she hasn't seen the waters reach her home since the flood of '93.

"It takes a toll on the farmers. Their crops are now ruined. It takes a toll on your property, everything is full of mud," Worlitz said. "We had to move the horses out because it would be up to their head."

But what's motivating her is to make her home better than ever.

She started the cleanup Saturday, and she's not the only one getting her property back on track.

The Boathouse hasn't been able to open up for the season yet.

"We were going to have a crew come in," owner Rich Luttrell said. "But with the storm that came in, we didn't want them all out here with a chance of severe weather."

That's one more day that could've been used to get this place up and running.

For now, they're just counting down the days until they can open their doors.

Luttrell said that if everything works out with Mother Nature, he plans to open back up next weekend. They hope they can be open for the Fourth of July, especially since they missed out on Memorial Day weekend.
