Jefferson County announces second COVID-19 death

As of April 4, the county had 69 cases of coronavirus

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. — A man in his 40s is the second person to die from the coronavirus in Jefferson County. He had been in the hospital.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to this young man’s family and friends,” said Jefferson County Health Department Director Kelley Vollmar.

“The Coronavirus and resulting COVID-19 disease do not discriminate based on age, gender or location. It is absolutely crucial that everyone does their part to stop the spread of this disease in our communities.”

A woman in her 80s was the first person in Jefferson County to die from COVID-19. She also had been in the hospital.

“We are deeply saddened by this news,” Vollmar previously said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time.”

As of April 4, the county reported 69 cases of the coronavirus.

“It is absolutely crucial that everyone does their part to stop the spread of this disease in our communities,” Vollmar said.

A stay-at-home order is currently in place in the county.
