Swimming advisory lifted for Ocean View's North Community Beach

The beach's water quality was retested and met the state's standard. Earlier this week, the results came back for high enterococci bacteria levels.

NORFOLK, Va. — On Wednesday, the Norfolk Department of Public Health lifted a swimming advisory that was issued for Ocean View's North Community Beach.

This comes after the results came back from the environmental division of the department and the bacteria levels were within the State Water Quality Standards. The water is tested weekly during the swimming season.

Health officials tested the water Monday and found that the enterococci bacteria levels were exceeding state water quality standards.

According to the Norfolk Department of Public Health, "Enterococci bacteria are a group of indicator organisms used to determine the extent of fecal contamination in recreational waters."

All of the signs that were posted around the beach warning swimmers to stay out of the water are being removed.

Swimming or playing in water with higher bacteria levels increases your risk of getting sick.
