ST. LOUIS — It's a sight all too common in St. Louis, regardless of the neighborhood; dead or dying structures, crumbling apart or not, mark up significant territory within the city. But, it's those same properties which are often given new life — and a well-recognized award may play a key part in their success.

This week, nominations for the Landmarks Association of St. Louis' 'Most Prestigious' award opened for consideration. The organization, founded in 1958, was created to honor the lifestyles of buildings which have carried historical significance for the City of St. Louis and the surrounding area.

Last year, the Henry Miller Museum in north St. Louis won the 'Most Enhanced' award. The building was founded as the International Brotherhood for Electrical Workers in the late 19th Century. While the union now carries over 800,000 members, the building itself fell into disrepair until just a few years ago.

To be eligible for the award, all projects must have been completed since May of last year. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 11. For more information on applying, visit them online, here.
