BRENTWOOD, Mo. — Car thieves were caught going door-to-door in a Brentwood neighborhood Thursday night.

A homeowner's surveillance video shows a car pull up and two people get out, then walk behind some houses.

Next, you see a guy get into an unlocked car, tries to start it and then runs off.

Brentwood police said they had no other reports of car break-ins Thursday night.

Police said that you should never leave valuables in your car.

Don't even leave a garage door opener inside, or a spare car key.

It's okay to empty your car and leave the doors unlocked if you're worried about thieves damaging your car to get inside.

Home security camera footage is gold for police departments!
