Aerial images from Sky 5 show a heavily damaged pickup truck. It also appeared that police had someone in handcuffs

CENTREVILLE, Ill — Several emergency crews responded to a crash Wednesday morning in the Metro East.

Officials responded to the 6000 block of Bond Avenue around 5 a.m. Wednesday, which is on the border of Centreville and East St. Louis.

According to police, a gray pickup had slammed into a pole. One man was inside the truck and was not conscious. He had to be cut out of the truck, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to firefighters.

Centreville police officials said it appeared the vehicle was speeding when the driver left the road, hit a utility pole and then hit a tree. The vehicle stopped on its side on top of a tree.

Aerial images from Sky5 showed a heavily damaged pickup truck. It also appeared that police had someone in handcuffs. A detective with the Centreville Police Department later clarified that several family members came to the scene and were trying to get to the vehicle. Police said on the scene knew the family and had to physically restrain some of them from getting to the wrecked pickup truck.
