Alton murder suspect arrested after 2 week manhunt

After searching for Edelen for two weeks, he was arrested by the US Marshals in Bunker Hill, Illinois on Dec. 14.

ALTON, Ill. – Police have arrested a man who they believe stabbed a 41-year-old man to death in Alton Nov. 29.

Officers responded to a report of a man who had been stabbed in the 3400 block of Bolivar around 6 p.m. The man has been identified as John C. Jackson, 41. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Brian L. Edelen with two counts of first-degree murder.

After searching for Edelen for two weeks, he was arrested by the US Marshals in Bunker Hill, Illinois on Dec. 14.

“This is a perfect example of the excellent investigative work of the Alton Police Investigations Bureau and the value of our continued partnership with the US Marshal’s Service. We also appreciate all of the help we received from the community as we sought out this violent criminal. We will always follow every lead we get and we will not stop until we can close the case," said Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons.
