BONNE TERRE, Mo. – The Big River Fire Department accomplished a tremendous rescue Saturday after a truck nearly washed away in the flash floods.

“You just never know what you're going into,” explained Allen Stegall, the Assistant Fire Chief of the Big River Fire Department. “We always hope for the best, that vehicle is washed over and people are fine.”

A driver and one passenger were attempting to cross a bridge, which runs over the Salem Creek, when their truck was pushed downstream. The driver was clinging to a tree While the passenger was able to make it to a nearby home and call for help.

Fifteen volunteer firefighters hiked through a secluded forest and lined the shore. Two firefighters entered the rushing water to make contact with the driver.
