The logo of German chemicals giant Bayer is seen on flags during the company's annual results press conference on February 28, 2018 in Leverkusen.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson plans to announce Tuesday "an agricultural company expansion that will bring a significant number of new, high-paying jobs to the St. Louis area."

The company is Bayer AG, according to people familiar with the matter. Parson's office and Bayer didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

German pharmaceuticals giant Bayer appears to be serious about settling the thousands of legal cases filed against it over Monsanto's Roundup weedkiller.

The news comes as the German agriculture and health giant this year announced it would close a regional office in Pittsburgh, cutting 569 staff positions. It previously relocated its North American Commercial and Seeds and Traits divisions to St. Louis from the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. Bayer emphasized in those announcements that it would maintain the headquarters of its agriculture business in St. Louis.

Parson's announcement is set for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday from the State Capitol in Jefferson City.
