ST. LOUIS — St. Louis-based Halo+Cleaver, known for its line of sauces and rubs, is expanding its reach by inking a new deal with Dierbergs Markets. The brand's three sauces will hit the shelves of 25 stores by mid-November, according to founder Matt Richard

The full line of seven sauces and seasonings are currently available at Supplement Superstores in St. Louis, Kansas and Illinois, as well as 15 additional retailers in the St. Louis area. Halo+Cleaver has partnered with MarginWise Consulting and Darling Makery to continue expansion efforts in St. Louis and beyond, officials said in a statement.

Halo+Cleaver's products include Smokehouse Red BBQ sauce, Pure Gold BBQ sauce, Mother Nature's Perfect Ketchup, Them Apples Premium Spice Rub, Espresso Cow Spice Rub, Pink Cajun Premium Spice Rub and Bee Sting Premium Spice Rub.

The sauces and rubs were created as a result of Richard's desire for healthy and flavor-packed condiments, the company said. As a result, Halo+Cleaver products include high-quality, all-natural ingredients, but are low calorie, gluten-free and have no added sugar.

Prior to launching Halo+Cleaver, Richard worked as a food scientist and new product development manager at St. Louis-based Acrobasso Foods. The company produces specialty dressings, sauces and beverage mixers. He also spent six years in the barbecue competition world with his family's team called Blazin' Blues BBQ.

Richard has a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in nutritional sciences, as well as an MBA from Washington University.

Fifty-one workers will be laid off when the O'Charley's restaurant in O'Fallon, Illinois, closes, according to a notice filed with the state. The layoffs at the restaurant, 1313 Central Park Drive, are expected to begin Dec. 15 and end Dec. 28, the notice said.
