ST. LOUIS — For the past four years, St. Peters has topped the region annually in local home sales. Midway through 2019, the St. Charles County municipality continues to lead the pack.

63376, a St. Charles County ZIP code that mostly includes St. Peters, through the first two quarters of the year had 1,033 homes sales, according to data provided by national real estate brokerage Redfin. The 63376 ZIP code sold 1,271 homes in 2018 and 1,315 homes in 2017.

Homebuilders aren't the only companies in the real estate industry vulnerable to an economic downturn.

Realtor Linda Boehmer of the Boehmer Team said St. Peters continues to see strong sales activity because of its desirable school districts, access to major interstates and a diverse housing stock.

"The city is clean, presents itself well and many residents as well as the children who grew up in the city choose to stay there when making a move or looking for a place to raise their families. When new construction is available in the 63376 ZIP code, it sells rapidly. The city offers a mix of preowned homes, new construction and low maintenance living options," she said.

This week's "on the market" takes a look at some of the most expensive homes on the market in Des Peres.

Across the region, buyers continue to shop for homes in a market with limited options. The number of St. Louis metro area homes for sale fell to 4,730 last month, a decline of 21.3% from a year earlier, according to data from the St. Louis Realtors trade group.

Using the data provided by Redfin, the Business Journal ranked the top 25 local ZIP codes that had the most home sales in the first half of 2019. The slideshow above includes neighborhoods across the region, including those located in the city of St. Louis, Metro East, St. Louis County and St. Charles County.

The recession that caused Rick Zellner so many headaches in the late 2000s also left deep scars in the psyches of homebuilders, many of which didn't survive the economic carnage.

In upcoming stories, the Business Journal will examine the St. Louis-area ZIP codes where homes sell the fastest and also what neighborhoods have the highest average sale price.
