ST. LOUIS BUSINESS JOURNAL -- Derek Schulze, owner of Red Oak Biscuits at 1330 Washington Ave., is planning a new restaurant concept that will open across the street, at 1325 Washington Ave., in October.

“The idea is to really harness in on Washington Avenue becoming a destination spot,” Schulze said. “City Museum does a lot for this neighborhood and it’s created a great foundation. We want to capitalize on what’s already here.”

Schulze opened Red Oak one year ago. It features farm-to-table cuisine. He found through reviews that people enjoyed the restaurant’s biscuits, so the restaurant was renamed Red Oak Biscuits, and now features mostly biscuit options.

Schulze will lease the new space, located inside the Mankovsky Shoe Co. building, from TCM Realty. The new restaurant will focus on new American southern cuisine, Schulze said, though he hasn’t finalized details like a name or menu. It will focus on dinner.
