Call to action after mother murdered in front of children

It is a tragedy that's sparking outrage. Now, Porsha's family, friends, and neighbors are calling on north St. Louis County residents to stop the violence.

ST. LOUIS – A vigil for Porsha Owens brought out a large crowd Friday night. The community gathered at the spot where she was gunned down in front of her three young children.

“I just want my sister back, that's all I want. He didn't have to take my sister for no car,” said Porsha’s sister, Caklya King.

Porsha’s car is no longer in the driveway where it all happened in north St. Louis County. Instead, candles light the place where police say Mark Haywood shot Porsha, as her three young children took cover.

Now those children are living with the memory of that day. And they're doing it without their mom.

“They miss their momma but they're gonna be ok. I'll make sure they're ok,” said King.

It's a call that comes too late for Porsha, who herself made it her job to protect children. She was a school safety officer with the Riverview Gardens district. But early Monday morning, her training couldn't save her

"I'm never gonna see my sister again, never," said King.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Porsha's children. As of Friday night, it had raised more than $210,000.
