ST. LOUIS – A man is in critical condition after police said he fled the scene of a traffic stop and crashed into a fire truck and a building in south St. Louis.

According to St. Louis County police, they attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Horn Avenue and South Broadway and the car fled. St. Louis city police said after the county police stopped following the car, it was involved in an accident where it hit a fire truck and then a residence.

The other occupant of the car got away on foot.

A spokesperson said there were a few people inside when the car crashed. A man was injured in his knee and transported to a hospital.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department originally said the car was being pursued by St. Louis County police, but later said “neither jurisdiction was in pursuit of this vehicle to our knowledge.”
