CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Carbondale Police Department is searching for a suspect involved in an attempted abduction.

Just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, a girl in her early teens was walking to school in the 1000 block of East College Street when a man called out to her.

The girl was able to get away from the man and he quickly ran away from the area.

After the incident, the girl went home and called police.

The suspect is described as a white man, possibly in his mid-40’s, having blond hair and green eyes, a “scruffy” blond beard and spoke with a southern accent. He was last seen wearing a long sleeved black shirt, blue jeans and Timberland boots. Officials said he was also carrying a wallet with a chain attached.
