Child dropped off at Galleria after carjacking

The suspect dropped off the child at the Galleria around 9:20 a.m.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY - A child was dropped off at the Galleria in Richmond Heights after a carjacking in north county Wednesday morning. The carjacking occurred around 8:20 a.m at the Conoco gas station in the 2400 block of Chambers in Moline Acres.

Surveillance video shows the girl’s aunt had just finished pumping gas when a thief grabbed her out of her Dodge Challenger, threw her to the ground and sped away.

"All I could think of was India,” Tamika said. "As he was pulling off, I heard my niece screaming."

A whole hour passed before police learned a witness saw the carjacker drop off the little girl in the parking lot of the Galleria, nearly 15 miles away.

The five-year-old was reunited with her family unharmed.

"As long as India's OK, we're OK," Tamika said.

And while the ordeal may have been terrifying, Moline Acres Police Chief Gregory Moore says it's not surprising to see another carjacking.

"It's holiday season. People are desperate out there. We expect it,” he said.

The chief says they’re still investigating the circumstances of the carjacking as they look for the black Dodge Challenger with Illinois plates R291207 and the man who stole it.
