A Hazelwood Police Officer is in critical condition after a rollover accident Thursday. The Hazelwood Police Department identified the officer as Craig Tudor, an 11-year veteran of the department. He is married with no children.

Officer Tudor was involved in an accident around 5 p.m. Thursday. Hazelwood Police say Tudor was going westbound on Dunn Road, on his way to a call, with his lights and cameras on. A driver, trying to make a left turn, hit the police car. The car then hit an embankment and rolled over. Fire fighters had to cut him out.

Community members quickly rallied around the officer. Bill Peipers organized a prayer vigil, scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.

“This is the other end of community policing that we hear so much about. We expect the officers to engage the community. It’s time for the community to engage the officers. It’s a two way street,” Peipers said. “He’s not alone in this. We’re all going to be standing here for him, and anything we can do, we will do.”

There is also a GoFundMe page to help pay for the officer’s medical expenses.
