A St. Charles County teenager has been charged with possessing illegal weapons and stealing materials to create homemade explosives.

Tristan Blasius, 17, was arrested on May 9 after his father called the police on him.

O’Fallon police officers along with members of the St. Charles County Bomb Squad responded to a home on Golden Orchard Drive after Blasius’ father found knives, knuckles, firearms, ammunition and materials to make homemade explosive devices and seven homemade explosive devices and an old peanut butter jar full of fertilizer. Blasius’ father found the items in their basement.

The bomb squad found the explosive devices to be functional and designed to throw fragmentation.

Blasius admitted to making the homemade explosives. During an interview with police, he said he researched ammonium nitrate explosives and explained the old peanut butter jar of fertilizer was an attempt to detonate this type of explosive, but it failed. He also admitted to burglarizing several residences in St. Charles County and stole all the firearms.
