Expect delays along I-44 in St. Louis County this weekend

Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, crews will close various lanes on both eastbound and westbound I-44.

ST. LOUIS — If you use Interstate 44 bridge near Shrewsbury, you should expect some traffic delays.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, crews will close various lanes on both eastbound and westbound I-44 as they are moving traffic.

The shift is expected to be completed by noon Saturday. Three eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes will shift to the eastbound bridge.

The Missouri Department of Transportation started repairs on the bridge last year after an unusual number of cracks were discovered due to changing temperatures.

That's when all eastbound lanes were closed. Now, crews will begin repairing the westbound lanes, so traffic will shift back to the eastbound side.

All interstate lanes and the ramp from Shrewsbury to eastbound 44 are expected to reopen in mid-July.

You can also expect delays on Metrolink. If you're heading downtown this weekend from the Shrewsbury-Lansdowne, Sunnen and Maplewood-Manchester Stations, trains will be departing five minutes early because of track maintenance work.

Both the Cardinals and Blues have games Saturday afternoon so allow some extra time if you plan on taking Metrolink.
