Extreme heat, storms threaten Saturday

St. Louis — Extreme heat and storms could hinder some of your outdoor plans this weekend across the bi-state.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for the entire 5 On Your Side viewing area until 8PM Saturday. Heat indices will range between 100° and 107° by late this afternoon. Dew points approaching 80° will make for miserable conditions outside. Make sure you limit your time in the heat, stay hydrated, and keep your pets inside on days like today.

We're also monitoring a cold front and upper level energy situated to our north across northern Missouri and southern Iowa. This boundary could trigger some storms in our very unstable air mass this afternoon into this evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has the entire bi-state in a marginal threat for severe storms, meaning a few storms that develop today could become strong to severe. Winds between 40-60 mph and heavy downpours will be the main threats with storms today and tonight.

On Sunday, we'll be slightly cooler in the upper 80s and lower 90s with a heat index near 100°. Storms are possible again in the afternoon into Monday, before a cooler and drier air mass settles in by Tuesday.
