EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — A police pursuit that started in Washington Park, Illinois, ended with an East St. Louis family looking for a temporary place to live Tuesday night.

Washington Park police said they noticed a car driving erratically near Caseyville Street at around 10:30 Tuesday night. They tried to pull the driver over, but he kept on going.

Washington Park police chased the SUV, which hit a dip in the road and flew into a home on Van Buren Avenue in East St. Louis. The driver was tossed from the car when it went airborne. He was arrested. Charges are pending.

The house belongs to Joan Fletcher. She lived there with her two sons, Lamarr Anderson and Demond Fletcher. All three were inside the house at the time of the crash.

“It was like a big explosion, like boom it vibrated the whole house,” explained Fletcher. Thankfully, the entire family is OK.

5 On Your Side is told that the suspect was driving on a suspended license and had an outstanding warrant in St. Claire County. He had an assault rifle in his car. But, carried no insurance on the car.

For anyone who would like to help the homeowner and her family, relatives have started a GoFundMe page to help with many of their expenses.
