ST. LOUIS COUNTY – Eastbound Interstate 270 was closed for about three hours after a fatal accident Monday afternoon.

According to the crash report from the Missouri Highway Patrol, the crash happened when a semi-truck traveling eastbound was making a lane change near the Missouri 367 exit at around 3:40. While the truck was changing lanes, a car already occupying the lane — a Chevy Cobalt — changed lanes and struck a third car, a Chevy Aveo.

The two cars then struck the median wall while the semi-truck continued driving eastbound. The Cobalt flipped, ejecting the driver, 29-year-old Chad Moore. Moore was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the Aveo, 55-year-old Rodney Knackstedt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The Cobalt was totaled and the Aveo suffered extensive damage. Both were towed from the scene, but it took about three hours for the highway to reopen.
