First female fighter pilot, a St. Louis native, to speak at Solider's Museum reopening

The first 5,000 visitors to Soldiers Memorial will receive commemorative pins.

ST. LOUIS — After 2 years and $30 million, the Soldiers Memorial Museum downtown is scheduled to re-open.

Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, a St. Louis native and the first ever female fighter pilot will be the keynote speaker on Saturday.

"I think it's crucial to capture the stories and the history of our people," Leavitt said in an exclusive interview with our Brandon Merano.

The first 5,000 visitors to Soldiers Memorial will receive commemorative pins. Additionally, the U.S. Postal Service will conduct a stamp cancellation commemorating the grand reopening of Soldiers Memorial from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Food trucks will be available from 8 a.m to 2 p.m.

Schedule:

9 a.m.: Concert

10 a.m.: Formal opening ceremony

11 a.m.: Soldiers Memorial opens to the public

American Sign Language interpretation will be provided at this program.
